Candlelight Gala Honors Fr. Villis, Benefits HCHC

The parish of Our Saviour Greek Orthodox Church celebrated 25 years of service by Fr. Elias and Presbytera Melanie Villis at an event that benefited Hellenic College Holy Cross. Fr. Elias is a 1994 Hellenic College graduate and earned his Master of Divinity from Holy Cross in 1997. In 1999, he was assigned as Proestamenos to Our Savior where he serves today. Additionally, Fr. Elias is Chancellor of the Direct Archdiocesan District and Director of Camp St. Paul.
Along with HCHC Board Chair Archbishop Elpidophoros and 425 attendees, the Candlelight Gala raised $75,000 for the school and additional monies for the Beacon of Hope Scholarship Fund. The event was held in February at the Surf Club on the Sound in New Rochelle, NY.
“It brings me great joy that the proceeds from this Gala event will support our beloved Greek Orthodox theological school, the heart of our sacred mission in America,” said Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. “By investing in the formation of our future clergy and lay leaders, we strengthen the very foundation of our Church. Together, we ensure that the light of Orthodoxy continues to shine brightly for generations to come, and we thank Father Elias and the Church of our Saviour community.”
Added HCHC President Dr. Demetrios Katos, “Fr. Elias and Presbytera Melanie embrace wholeheartedly the mission and vision of the school. Their ministry at Our Saviour has impacted countless lives and serves an example for our students to aspire to,” he said. “We are grateful to the Our Savior parish for their stewardship of, and love for, HCHC. Their support is a wonderful testimony to the generosity of the parish.”
